Many people know Buddhism and Shintoism but have you heard of Shugendo? It is a unique religion from Japan that practices asceticism in the mountains.
This store is a one-of-a-kind spot dedicated to the traditions of Shugendo. This charming, locally loved store offers authentic ritual items, handcrafted talismans, and spiritual souvenirs rooted in centuries of mountain practice.

At this stop of our Nara Autumn tour we will breathe history!
This shrine was originally founded as a temple in the 8th century. In the 12th century it was the refuge of the famous commander Minamoto Yoshitsune and then, in the 14th century, it gave shelter to Emperor Godaigo, who founded his imperial court in Yoshino and made this shrine his palace.

People say that if you want to know the history of Yoshino, you should visit this temple. Founded in the 10th century, this temple was the place of worship of Emperor Godaigo after he moved his capital to Yoshino during the time when Japan had two rival imperial courts.
Here we can also see a tahoto-style pagoda, tour the treasure pavilion and visit the mausoleum of Emperor Godaigo and his wife.
